/about
Hi, I’m Dimitry (or Dimi). I’m based in Amsterdam and I’ve been building in the digital world for over a decade. I spend a lot of my professional life trying to convince people that “legacy code” is often a liability and that you cannot have both poor performance and good user experience.
But that’s not what this website is about – not entirely at least.
This is where I dump the noise, random thoughts, and figments of my brain. I’m a full-stack engineer, a loving husband, dad to four kids, humble servant to three cats, and proud pack-leader of a super excitable Dalmatian.
I’m always accompanied by a never-ending rotation of music, whether I’m at work, walking the dog, running, or crushing some calisthenics or kettlebell workout. I’m always on the lookout for a new genre or artist to explore, as each activity comes with its own soundtrack.
To escape the “beautiful chaos” of my family, you’ll often find me in the digital realm. I’m a sucker for punishing souls-likes and dark fantasy games, but don’t let that fool you; I’m perfectly satisfied with cozy, casual games like Stardew Valley, too. Just like my music, I like my games varied and interesting.
When I’m not gaming, I’m likely watching something from my ever-growing anime watchlist, a movie, or the occasional TV show. And if I really don’t want to do anything digital, I simply read a book/manga or zone out with a 1000+ piece jigsaw puzzle.
Cageman?
Cageman is the literal translation of my last name, Kooijmans. That, and it sounds cool. It started as an online alias about a decade ago and has slowly seeped into real-life, up until the point where it has become part of my - and my family’s - identity.
